Photos from the collection of Neil DamgaardJuly 23, 2004
ILLUSTRATED here are two examples of the collection which includes about 30 pictures. — the first is my father outside of the camp, on liberation day itself. My father was Captain Martin J. Damgaard, 602nd Combat Engineer Battalion (Camouflage).
He was at the entrance to the Buchenwald camp near Weimar on some attached duty that day. The second picture is grisly, and representative of the other photos.
Another officer from the 602nd, who is still living in Florida, told me that he has a similar collection and once offered it to a Holocaust museum, but was refused. The images are too awful for display.Neil C. Damgaard
