In May 2002 the learned journal Osteuropa published in its series Themen der Zeitgeschichte a study by veteran Der Spiegel editor Fritjof Meyer* (right) entitled: “Die Zahl der Opfer von Auschwitz: Neue Erkenntnisse durch neue Archivfunde.” This led to unconcealed glee among revisionists, and uproar in the conformist press.
