Night Refuge +1: Association of Hungarian Electronic Journalists calls upon Hungarian Television to abandon its axing of the program

THE Association of Hungarian Electronic Journalists called upon Imre Ragáts, president of Hungarian Television, to revoke his decision to axe the program “Night Refuge”.

In a statement, the Journalists’ Association stated:

“On October 28, the president of Hungarian Television axed the truly public service Night Refuge cultural program, citing that – using footage recorded at a function – the Sunday episode provided a platform for British historian David Irving to express his views about the 1956 Hungarian revolution.“The journalists’ association finds it astonishing that in the 14th year after the proclamation of the Hungarian republic, in a free country, during the reign of a government that preaches freedom of speech and expression, the heads of Hungarian television should axe a program because it does not conform to their ideology.”

Incidentally, today, the program is no longer promoted on Hungarian Television’s website. All information about it has been scrapped.

A Magyar Elektronikus Újságírók Szövetsége felszólítja Ragáts Imrét, a Magyar Televízió elnökét, hogy vonja vissza az Éjjeli Menedék címï¿½ mï¿½sort megszüntetŒ határozatát.

Az újságíró szövetség közleménye emlékeztet: az MTV elnöke október 28-án megszüntette a “valóban közszolgálati Éjjeli menedék cím? kulturális háttérm?sort, arra hivatkozva, hogy a vasárnapi adás – egy rendezvényen készült felvételen – teret adott David Irving brit történész ’56-os magyar forradalommal kapcsolatos nézeteinek.”A MEÚSZ megdöbbentõnek tartja, hogy a Magyar Köztársaság kikiáltásának 14. esztendejében egy szabad országban, egy szólás- és véleménynyilvánítást hirdetõ kormányzat regnálása alatt a tévé vezetése azért szüntessen meg egy m?sort, mert az nem az õ ideológiájával azonosul.”

Egyébként a Magyar Televízió internetes oldalán ma már nem ajánlják a m?sort, arról minden információt töröltek.
