- M 159 [von Thoma]: (re LANGHOFEN’s book on concentration-camp): It’s an exceedingly frank, just and well-written book. Then, this quarrel between GÖRING and HIMMLER about the Gestapo – he (HIMMLER) wanted to get his S.S. out of the camps in PRUSSIA, and GÖRING as the Prussian Minister insisted on keeping them. All this is in the book. It’s very interesting.
?: Have you finished it?
M 159: Yes, BASSENGE (P/W) has got it. Ask BASSENGE whether he has finished it, or perhaps he is reading something else at the moment, then you can read it straight away.
?: And what’s it called?
M 159: BÜRGERMOOR, the BÜRGERMOOR Concentration Camp. You can accept what you read in this book about the life there as true fact. There is no doubt, I — believe, that dirty work was done, especially at interrogations. I myself know of a number of people to whom this and that has happened. There were scoundrels there who simply went about beating up the people, and things like that.
