Himmler Wiedemann 311038jpg

HimmlerIn private hands

A letter from Himmler to Fritz Wiedemann, Hitler’s adjutant, ten days before the Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, in 1938, arguing the case for letting all Germany’s Jews emigrate without any pettifogging obstructions.

Himmler to Wiedemann, Oct 31, 1938; endorsed in red crayon, “z.d.A 9.11.38” (the eve of the Kristallnacht pogrom). Its provenance is not evident, but it was auctioned in New Hampshire, USA, in 2009: https://www.rrauction.com/content/pdf/313pdf/military.pdf (now a dead link). Brieger had written his doctoral thesis on “Grundrechte und Polizeigewalt” (Marburg, Univ., Diss., 1931).
