Rolf Hochhuth’s autobiography will not be published

The Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt [prestigious, semi-governmental German publishing house in Stuttgart] has confirmed press reports: It is withdrawing Rolf Hochhuth‘s autobiography.

On account of his utterances on the subject of The Holocaust, for which he has already offered apologies, DVA will not publish the autobiography of the playwright Rolf Hochhuth. The contract on the book has been withdrawn, a spokeswoman for the publisher told the news agency DPA.

The reason is the row over Hochhuth’s remarks about the controversial British historian. David Irving Hochhuth had stated it was “idiotic” to refer to the Holocaust denier Irving as such. (nz).n.

DIE Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt hat Presseberichte bestätigt: Sie zieht Rolf Hochhuths Autobiografie zurück.

Wegen seiner Äußerungen zum Holocaust, für die er bereits um Entschuldigung gebeten hat, will DVA die Autobiografie des Dramatikers Rolf Hochhuth nicht veröffentlichen. Der Vertrag über das Buch sei zurückgezogen worden, sagte am Mittwoch eine Verlagssprecherin der Nachrichtenagentur dpa.

Grund ist der Streit um Hochhuths Äußerungen über den umstrittenen britischen Historiker David Irving. Hochhuth hatte gesagt, es sei «idiotisch», den Holocaust-Leugner Irving als solchen zu bezeichnen. (nz)n.
